Groups where all the irreducible characters are super - monomial

Isaacs has defined a character to be super monomial if every primitive character inducing it is linear. Isaacs has conjectured that if G is an M -group with odd order, then every irreducible character is super monomial. We prove that the conjecture is true if G is an M -group of odd order where every irreducible character is a {p}-lift for some prime p. We say that a group where irreducible cha...

Monomial Characters of Finite Groups

An abundance of information regarding the structure of a finite group can be obtained by studying its irreducible characters. Of particular interest are monomial characters — those induced from a linear character of some subgroup — since Brauer has shown that any irreducible character of a group can be written as an integral linear combination of monomial characters. Our primary focus is the cl...

On Natural Monomial Characters of Sn

A class of natural linear characters for the centralizers of elements in the symmetric group is introduced. The character values of the corresponding monomial characters are calculated. They have a surprising combinatorial interpretation.

Antichains of Monomial Ideals Are Finite

The main result of this paper is that all antichains are finite in the poset of monomial ideals in a polynomial ring, ordered by inclusion. We present several corollaries of this result, both simpler proofs of results already in the literature and new results. One natural generalization to more abstract posets is shown to be false.

What are Characters for?

Children as young as three engage in the art of make-believe exploring the boundaries of the real and the fantastic [9]. One of the most important aspects of drama is that it provides a type of activity where children engage in the play actively, with several senses. Aristotle refers to this as ”enactment”: which means to act rather than to read. Enacted representations involve direct sensing a...
